Home Instead survey makes national headlines

A survey by Home Instead Senior Care on the views of 1,000 retirees has made national news with coverage in the Daily Express, The Sun, The Times and the ‘i’ paper.

The survey sought the views of people who had retired and was commissioned to explore this large market of potential CAREGivers.

Home Instead provides a high level of support to their franchise offices to help them recruit the right people to work as CAREGivers. Older people, who have acquired a vast range of life skills and are close in age to the clients they care for, make ideal CAREGivers and they were keen to find out more about people who had retired but who may well now be lacking fulfilment.

The survey revealed that one in five people felt deeply disappointed by their retirement. A quarter of those surveyed said that they felt they had retired too soon, and the average retiree would have happily continued working for another seven years. Nearly half of them (45%) missed their work colleagues and friends; and 29% felt that they lacked a sense of purpose since retiring.

This suggests that recent retirees could usefully be targeted by their franchisees who have a continued requirement to seek and to recruit CAREGivers.

Ruth Brown, Business Development Director of Home Instead Senior Care, said: “We aspire to be the employer of choice in the care sector and being inclusive is part of this. Older workers have a lot to bring to a role in care and the survey has revealed that our franchise teams could offer just what they are looking for; a sense of purpose, the sense of belonging to a team and the ‘fun’ of work.

“We are committed to tackling ageism in the workplace and already employ many CAREGivers who are in their 60’s and 70’s.”

By commissioning this survey Home Instead has been able to provide their franchise owners with some excellent information and knowledge which they can utilise in their local recruitment activity.
