Home Instead reaches dementia training milestone

At-home care franchise, Home Instead Senior Care, has reached a significant training milestone, having delivered their City & Guilds accredited caregiver dementia training to over 1,500 of the company’s caregivers.

Home Instead specialise in providing older people with non-medical care in their own homes. By concentrating on one demographic, the company has been able to focus its attention and resources to develop a bespoke training course that supports their caregivers and provides them with the essential tools to do the job.

A key feature of the company’s dementia training is that rather than focusing on the medical model of training based around disease management, it focuses almost exclusively on techniques and skills to enable caregiver and client to interact positively and constructively.

The trained caregivers are now applying their newly acquired skills and, as a result of the investment in their training, they feel valued by the company with the added benefit of a recognised qualification in dementia care.

The training has given Home Instead franchise owners the edge over the competition as they are able to provide a better quality service to clients with dementia, consequently allowing their businesses to grow substantially in this area.

Speaking about his company’s dementia training, CEO, Trevor Brocklebank said, “Ensuring that our caregivers are armed with appropriate skills and learning sits at the core of everything that we do.

“Our caregivers are motivated and enthusiastic about the work they do and part of this is down to the confidence they have to deliver the right care at the right time.

“We are hugely proud of the work we are doing to upskill our caregivers and the positive impact this then has on their work. By getting dementia care right, we can make a huge difference, not only to clients who are living with the disease but to their families too.”
