Jam Coding Brings Digital Education to Cardiff Schools
We’re proud to announce the launch of Jam Coding Cardiff, led by new Area Director Mohammed Afzal.
The launch brings high quality computing education to children and schools across Cardiff. Jam Coding Cardiff will support young people in developing essential computing and life skills that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.
Meet Mohammed
Mohammed is a trained electronics and software engineer with over 15 years of industry experience. He has worked across multiple blue chip companies and contributed to the design and development of products sold in their millions worldwide.
Raised in a family that ran small local businesses, Mohammed developed a strong understanding of entrepreneurship, community and the importance of creating opportunities locally. Giving back to his community has always been a key motivation.
“I wanted to use my skills to make a real difference locally,” Mohammed explains.
“I initially planned to set something up independently to teach people who had a passion for technology, but having worked in the industry for many years I could clearly see the scale of the digital skills gap, particularly across South Wales. I realised that working alone would limit the impact I could make.”
Jam Coding offered him the right platform, one he felt confident would deliver.
“Jam Coding’s global reach and strong infrastructure give me the platform and resources to deliver digital life skills at scale,” Mohammed continues. “Expansion across Wales is a longer term ambition, and I’m confident that Jam Coding gives me the right foundation to achieve it.”
Why Jam Coding
Jam Coding stood out due to its comprehensive approach to computing education and the strong support it provides to both learners and teachers.
“Jam Coding offered exactly what I was looking for,” Mohammed says. “It provides high quality programmes, strong support structures and a clear educational vision. Most importantly, it allows us to inspire children to pursue digital careers and help close the skills gap by making digital learning accessible from an early age.”
Roger Grogan, CEO of Jam Coding, welcomed Mohammed to the organisation.
“We are delighted to welcome Mohammed to the Jam Coding family,” said Roger. “His depth of industry experience, commitment to community impact and passion for education make him an ideal leader for Cardiff and the wider region. We are excited to see Jam Coding grow in Wales under his leadership.”
Teaching the Future in Cardiff Schools
Since 2014, Jam Coding has been delivering life skills to the next generation of digital citizens. In 2025, Jam Coding was named Learning Provider of the Year at The Learning Awards for its innovative computing curriculum.
Jam Coding Cardiff will work closely with schools across the city, delivering curriculum support, after school coding clubs, enrichment sessions, e-safety and digital citizenship education, holiday clubs and other flexible staffing solutions.
For Mohammed, seeing children engage with technology in a positive way is key.
“Teaching children how to use technology to make the world a better place is incredibly important to me,” he says. “Technology should be fun and creative, but also safe and responsible.”
