Drainage franchise offers opportunity for growth

{Drainage franchise offers opportunity for growth}

The owner of a Metro Rod franchise, Andrew Johnston, is growing his business, buying the Edinburgh office to reflect the success he has seen running the Glasgow franchise for the past 14 years.

Providing a range of services, including drain unblocking and CCTV drain surveys, Andrew has grown his Metro Rod franchise to a team of 28 engineers, turning over around £3m. The company even won Metro Rod’s ‘Best Local Growth’ Award at its annual conference.

Keen to expand, Andrew had the opportunity to buy neighbouring territory Edinburgh, a business that was also performing well financially. With huge potential for growth, Andrew plans to build on the number of tankers, increasing its capacity to manage flood relief and jet clean drains.

The move will enable growth for both the Glasgow and Edinburgh businesses, reaping the benefits of multi-unit franchise ownership, such as bulk buying and stronger brand presence. Andrew will remain just as focused on the Glasgow franchise, with plans to increase its turnover by 20% next year.

Andrew says: “This acquisition is an exciting step forward, and it’s a win for everyone. Thanks to our growth plans, we’ll be able to further meet the drainage needs that exist in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

“The move will see the career opportunities for engineers at both offices grow. The acquisition is very much a joint effort and I’m so proud to see them as enthusiastic as I am about the journey ahead.”

Stephen Chambers, COO of Metro Rod, says: “Andrew has certainly demonstrated his capability as a business leader. We’re keen for our franchise owners and engineers to develop in their careers, so to see Andrew become a multi-unit owner is fantastic. Let’s see what he and his engineers will achieve in the coming years!”
