Location:

The Plough is located in the northeast Derbyshire village of Brackenfield. The village lies approximately 5 miles west of Matlock, 5 miles northwest of Alfreton and 17 miles north of Derby. The area is predominantly agricultural, although there are a number of attractions in the vicinity including the Ogston Reservoir. The reservoir provides multiple leisure activities such as sailing, windsurfing and trout-fishing, and is especially well known for its bird-life with over 200 different species sighted, including spring and autumn migrants. The village of Brackenfield itself is home to a vehicle tyre shop, an alpaca farm and Holy Trinity Church (built in 1856).

The nearest train station can be found in the town of Alfreton and sits on the Liverpool to Norwich line between Nottingham and Chesterfield stations. Regular village bus services allow travel to the nearby towns of Matlock, Alfreton and Clay Cross. The nearest airport is East Midlands International Airport which is located 31 miles south.

The Plough occupies a Grade II listed, 16th century, detached, two-storey building under a slate roof. The property benefits from being the only public house in the village and it enjoys a large amount of passing vehicular traffic.
