Our clients are seeking a suitable company to acquire the customer portfolio and future service opportunities associated with its long-established irrigation service department.
The opportunity has arisen as a result of the planned retirement in 2027 of the Director responsible for the service operation. Our clients have therefore taken the decision to close its dedicated service department following completion of the 2026 season and transition its customers to an appropriate specialist service provider.
This is a sale of the service customer portfolio and associated future opportunities only and does not involve the sale of our clients wider business.
ESTABLISHED CUSTOMER BASE
The portfolio comprises a diverse range of irrigation customers, including:
Private residential gardens;
High-value properties;
Commercial properties;
Landscape irrigation systems;
Sports facilities; and
Bowling greens.
Customers are principally located across the Midlands, the M1/M40 corridor towards London and central London north of the River Thames.
Many customers have been loyal for many years and the service department has established a strong reputation for technical knowledge, reliability and customer care.
RECURRING SERVICE REVENUE
The majority of the portfolio comprises annual service contracts, typically incorporating:
Spring start-up;
Mid-season service; and
Winter drain-down.
Contract customers also receive priority for ad-hoc breakdown and repair work.
The wider customer base provides additional opportunities for:
Breakdowns | Repairs | Remedial Works | Upgrades | Replacement Systems
SIGNIFICANT GROWTH POTENTIAL
The service department has historically operated with limited engineering capacity.
Following the retirement of the second engineer at the end of 2025, the operation has been serviced by one engineer during 2026, resulting in a reduction in service contracts from 104 in 2025 to 84 in 2026.
The Vendor believes that the historical turnover therefore does not represent the full potential of the customer portfolio.
An established irrigation business with an existing service team should be well positioned to:
Increase contract penetration across the c.170 active customers;
Improve engineer utilisation;
Incorporate customers into existing geographic routes;
Generate additional breakdown and remedial revenue;
Identify upgrade and replacement opportunities; and
Reduce incremental overhead through integration with an existing operation.
This creates an attractive bolt-on opportunity for an established irrigation or similar company in the sector.
IDEAL PURCHASER
The Vendor is seeking an established company in this sector with a strong reputation for:
Technical competence | Reliable service | Customer care
The successful purchaser should have the capacity and experience to maintain the standards that customers have come to expect.
