The established national centre operates from a former quarry with a recreational lake approximately 20 metres deep. Its clear water supports diving and open water swimming, with fish stocks including roach, perch, sturgeon and trout. Open water swimming was introduced in 2011.
Diving facilities include purpose-designed training platforms, a jetty with two piers for deep-water entry, a concrete slipway and two training areas with non-slip platforms. The lake also features an underwater theme park with attractions including a simulated cave, aircraft and boats.
A central facilities building provides a retail shop, café, conference room and office, complemented by extensive visitor parking and numerous outbuildings, including storage containers and a workshop.
The property has also been used as a location for film and television productions, providing an additional established use alongside its diving and swimming activities.
Located approximately two miles from Junction 35 of the M6 and close to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland, the centre is accessible to diving, swimming and outdoor recreation visitors from across the UK.
