Franchise Spotlight: Racing Franchise

When the UK’s golden goose, its property market, stopped laying eggs, Nick Watts knew it was time to call time on his £60k a year job as marketing director for a property development company.

When the UK’s golden goose, its property market, stopped laying eggs, Nick Watts knew it was time to call time on his £60k a year job as marketing director for a property development company.

Decamping to Racing Challenge, a racing franchise that hires out racing car simulators to corporate events and parties, Nick could at least credit the downturn with taking his life in an exciting new direction.

FS Blog: how did you end up owning a racing franchise?

Nick: I was trying to find something that I would enjoy doing away from the property market, and by chance I found the Racing Challenge and they were looking for someone to cover Berkshire.

FS Blog: Is the recession hampering the business significantly?

Nick: It would seem not.

In the tough times, businesses need to look at new ways to of enticing potential customers to their event.

Also, with the huge birthday market in the UK, the feel-good factor of a racing party at home can lift the blues felt in this current climate.

FS Blog: Where did the Racing Challenge Idea come from?

Nick: Racing Challenge was set up in 2002 to provide a unique alternative to go-karting and the many single driving simulators, to allow four drivers to race each other in the same race at the same time.

Such was the demand that Racing Challenge opened their first franchise in March 2007 and now boasts seven franchises across the UK.

Everyone enjoys the thrill of racing other people, whatever their age or gender, and by coming to your doorstep we make it easy for you.

FS Blog: What are your ambitions with this racing franchise?

Nick: I would like Racing Challenge to be well recognised around Berkshire and for people to look out for where it might be.

Once people have had a go, they can try and better their lap times and look out for when it might be appearing again.
