Right at Home announces exciting plans for Clinical Care offering

Right at Home has announced plans to develop their service offering in an exciting new direction that will put it at the forefront of the Government’s integrated health and social care agenda.

From November 2023 a number of offices will start offering home-based services which at the moment are typically only available from nurses in hospitals, or via community-based District Nursing teams.

This will include catheter and stoma care, as well as daily care and support for Clients who require a feeding tube, known as PEG feeding. These are among the ‘delegated activities’ that highly-trained CareGivers can deliver, with healthcare professional-led training and ongoing supervision and monitoring.

As it develops, these services will be expanded to include wound dressing and a range of healthcare monitoring and testing services, such as blood-pressure checks.

The initiative will reduce delays in hospital discharges and, in many cases, remove the need for people to attend hospital, as they will be able to receive more services from their trusted Right at Home CareGivers, in the comfort of their own home.

It has been driven by Simon Osborne, RaH Director of Quality, In-home and Clinical Care, and will be led by Lisa Grainger, whose appointment was reported in UK care press this week.

Lisa brings over 30 years of experience to the role, with her nursing career spanning various healthcare settings including acute, primary care and community care in both the public and private sectors.

She has worked in emergency, haematology, oncology, palliative care and Practice Nursing, and brings a depth of knowledge that will drive the training and ongoing clinical support for Right at Home care staff to deliver ‘Delegated Activities.’

The project will create opportunities for CareGivers to develop new skills and forge a range of new career paths within the company, in line with Right at Home's commitment to advance and professionalise careers in homecare.

Right at Home's Clinical Care Project also aligns with the Department of Health and Social Care’s strategic initiatives and broader Integrated Health and Social Care agenda, which increasingly focuses on meeting individuals' complex clinical needs in community settings.

"I am excited and feel very privileged to be leading Right at Home UK in a highly innovative Clinical Care Project. I am certain that in working with our excellent Clinical Lead, Lisa Grainger, we can, together, deliver the highest quality Delegated Activity training and full competency sign off process to our homecare Franchise Network, giving our Clients continuously high levels of care in the home. "

Simon Osborne | Director of Quality In-Home and Clinical Care

"I am really excited about my appointment to Right at Home as part of the Clinical Care Project Team. Our CareGivers are best placed to carry out delegated healthcare activities as they will know the person well and understand what is important to them to deliver consistent person-centred care. Through this project we will enable our CareGivers to deliver Delegated Health Care Activities to their Clients safely, competently and with confidence.” “I always seek to maintain the highest of standards and pride myself on my ability to adapt to colleagues' and Clients’ specific needs and build trusting relationships with all who I interact with."

Right at Home now has 80 franchise offices in England and Wales and will be opening an office in Dundee, Scotland, later this year. It follows a measured growth strategy that focuses on building long-standing business partnerships with Franchise Owners who are committed to delivering the highest standards of care within their local communities.

Its award-winning franchise support model has enabled the network to achieve industry-leading standards, with Client review scores averaging 9.8/10 on the UK’s biggest independent care review website, homecare.co.uk, and 34% of its CQC inspected locations rated as ‘Outstanding.’
