International convention showcases global power at a local level

International convention showcases global power at a local level

Being a franchisee of a global brand means getting world-class support, and Mathnasium’s recent international convention showcased exactly what that means for the owners of 1,100 maths tuition centres worldwide.

The convention focuses on knowledge-sharing among franchisees as much as it does on updates and innovations from the brand’s global Head Office. With so many franchisees discussing their own experiences, successes and challenges, the result is a powerful force for local growth.

“It was absolutely amazing,” says John Preston, Mathnasium’s UK Master Franchisee. “We only have 13 centres in the UK but there are over 1,100 around the world and the learning they bring makes you realise you’re part of a big community.

“It’s like having the best possible business mentors – they’re running the same business as you, they want you to succeed and the more we grow together, the more powerful the brand behind our businesses grows too.”

Along with speakers including the founder of the Mathnasium Method, Larry Martinek, break-out sessions covered every aspect of growing a Mathnasium centre from launch to managing multi-site expansion.

“There was something for all of us whichever stage we were at as a franchisee,” says John. “It included a review of the last 12 months and a preview of the next and covered everything from tech to marketing and business systems.

“The level of science and educational knowledge that goes into everything is phenomenal. Whether you’re new to Mathnasium or a Master Franchisee, there’s something for everyone there. The convention was brilliant, and because it was recorded we can go back and watch it again.

“Many of our franchisees are growing so fast, that watching a discussion regarding multi-site expansion isn’t currently on their radar, but in six months’ time it’s relevant. When it is relevant they have access to their business consultant, although sometimes hearing it from a franchisee that has been there, done that is best. Well now they can access that knowledge when it’s relevant.

“It’s propelling our businesses up to the next level.”

Jeff Akwaboah is Mathnasium’s newest UK franchisee, with his centre in Winchmore Hill launching in the next month or so. Despite not opening his doors yet, Jeff says he gained a huge amount from the event.

“Convention gave an insight to the way other centres operate globally, and especially as I am not open yet, it provided good guidance into the dos and don’ts. It was nice to get live and direct advice and dialogue between successful centre owners.

“A key takeaway for me was highlighting the importance of taking the parent through an experience – from the first moment they walk into the door, to when they sign-up, and then the ongoing relationship during the membership. This was so useful for me as I open my centre.”

After a record-breaking year which saw revenues more than double across the UK network during the pandemic, several new Mathnasium centres are in development and set to open by the end of this year.
