DRIVER HIRE: IDEAL FOR THE OLYMPICS

Driver Hire the transport and logistics recruitment franchise, are busy proving the Olympic doom-sayers wrong. Some have suggested that this massive sporting event will have little impact on business in the UK, but that’s certainly not the case at Driver Hire East London.

Over the past six months franchisee, Richard Pugh, and his team have had to recruit an additional 50 drivers to meet international Olympic demand. As a result their turnover is expected to rise to three times ahead of the same time last year.

“We’re supplying drivers to the Canadian, Japanese and Brazilians,” says Richard. “The Japanese are the biggest. NHK (the Japanese Broadcasting Company) came to us with a requirement for 28 drivers to deliver commentators, film crews and support staff to venues both in London and wherever the Japanese team are training or competing.”

To prove that they’ve no particular national bias (when it comes to business at any rate), East London are supplying eleven drivers to the Canadian Olympic Committee and seven drivers to Brazilian TV company, ESPN.

“We’ve been on the case since February,” said Richard. “For obvious reasons, we were looking for people with good route knowledge around London. A lot of the guys have driven taxis and worked on multi-drop. They’re contracted throughout this month, until the Olympic Games finish in August. And it doesn’t stop there. We’re also picking up a lot of extra work from food and drink companies, car deliveries and those in the waste disposal business directly as a result of the Olympics.”

With 95 franchised offices, Driver Hire is the UK’s largest specialist in its field, providing temporary and permanent drivers and other logistics staff to local and national organisations in both the public and private sector. If they’re short of staff – perhaps because of illness, holidays or seasonal demand – Driver Hire will supply them with a suitable replacement.
