Caremark celebrates a special birthday for a ‘remarkable’ former teacher

Estelle Peters, a former teacher has just celebrated her 100th birthday and is not about to stop enjoying living independently at home, despite having reached this milestone.

This remarkable lady is a client of home care provider Caremark (Plymouth) who provide care and support services to her, enabling her to remain living safely at home.  With the support of her care workers and her daughter, Estelle is able to continue enjoying life as she always has which makes a big difference to her sense of wellbeing and independence.

Mrs Peters was born in 1914 just before the Great War started.  She lived in Falmouth for 25 years and then moved to Plymouth in the early summer of 1939.

Married with one daughter, Estelle was a primary school teacher for many years at Honicknowle Infant and Junior schools.  She now lives in Higher Compton and counts her beloved dog Robyn as her closest companion.

Estelle’s daughter, together with Caremark (Plymouth)’s care manager Karen, organized a special celebratory lunch and as a special surprise they also invited the Lord and Lady Mayoress, who were delighted to visit, meet Estelle and have their photograph taken with her.

Sadly it looked as though Estelle would miss out on receiving her special birthday card from HM the Queen as her birth certificate was nowhere to be found.  However, with Caremark’s help another one was applied for and was sent off in time which meant Estelle received her special card in time for her big day.

A further surprise for Estelle was the arrival at the restaurant of her two care workers, Sharon and Denise, together with Managing Director of Caremark (Plymouth), Graham Livingston who came to present her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a card signed by all the staff. A photographer from the local newspaper was on hand to capture the happy occasion.

Caremark (Plymouth) provide care and support services for people of all ages, ethnicities and abilities.  Their care service enables people to remain living safely and independently at home rather than having to consider moving into residential accommodation.
