Orpington's New Thrive Club Gets Older Adults Moving and Connecting

{Orpington's New Thrive Club Gets Older Adults Moving and Connecting}

17 November 2025: A new free community initiative in Orpington is giving older adults and carers a free weekly space to connect, move, and feel their best.

The Thrive Club Orpington, a partnership between Walfinch Home Care Dulwich, Bromley and Sevenoaks and Home Links Physiotherapy, launched on 30 September, at Orpington Village Hall.  Councillor Jonathan Andrews, Mayor of Bromley, came to the launch, and over 40 people joined in the inaugural event.

The club will now run 1.30pm to 3.30pm every Tuesday except the fourth Tuesday of each month.

But Thrive Club isn’t just about exercise, it’s about joy, laughter, and community.  With gentle movement sessions led by a professional physiotherapist and caring support staff, the club offers a welcoming, safe space for people to improve mobility, boost confidence, and make new friends.

“The Thrive Club is a place where people can move, laugh and truly belong,” says Sonesh Ganatra, Managing Director at Walfinch Dulwich, Bromley and Sevenoaks.  “We believe good health is a gateway to enjoying life more fully, and it’s even better when shared with others.”

Joanna Ward, CEO of Home Links Physiotherapy, adds:  “This partnership brings evidence-based care into a social setting, creating lasting change, reducing loneliness, and helping people feel stronger and more connected.”

Movement That Makes a Difference

Each session focuses on building strength, balance, and confidence through exercises tailored to individual needs.  It’s a great way to stay active while reducing the risk of falls, and just as importantly, it’s fun.”

The launch event brought smiles, conversation, and even a few new friendships.

George, one of the attendees, shared: “I had a bad fall recently and really want to improve my balance.  The class is perfect and everyone here is so friendly.  I’ll definitely be back.”

Maureen added:  “It’s lovely that local businesses are supporting something like this for free.  If I ever need care, I’d want it from a company as thoughtful as Walfinch.”

Sue, referred by her Home Links physiotherapist, said she’s grateful for the chance to continue her exercises in such a welcoming environment.

A Commitment to Thriving At Home and Beyond

The Thrive Club reflects Walfinch’s broader mission: helping people thrive, not just cope.

“All our home care clients who receive an hour or more of care are offered at least ten minutes of activity with their carer, whether it’s a walk, gardening, crafts, or even dancing,” explains Sonesh.

Joanna Ward agrees: “When recommending care providers, we look for teams that go beyond tasks, those who support our clients’ physical health and wellbeing between physiotherapy visits.”
