The TaxAssist Group appoints Group Director of Practices Karl Gessner Joins The TaxAssist Group as its Group Director of Practices, effective 1 October.

In this newly created role, Karl Gessner will oversee the management, integration and growth of the Group’s owned practices. He will be based at the Norwich Support Centre, while working closely with teams across the Group’s acquired businesses.

Karl brings extensive international experience, having spent 20 years as a Partner at Deloitte in South Africa, Australia and Ukraine, advising privately owned businesses worldwide. Since moving to the UK in 2017, his roles have included Director at Price Bailey, Managing Director at GMG Color and Finance Director at Canham Consulting.

Daren Moore, CEO of The TaxAssist Group, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Karl to the leadership team. His wealth of expertise will be instrumental in driving forward the ‘Group-owned practices’ pillar of our strategy. We see significant opportunities for growth in this area, and Karl’s role will be central to ensuring our acquired practices are integrated, effective and profitable.”

The TaxAssist Group’s growth strategy is built around three pillars:

Continued investment in its franchise network
Developing complementary services for franchisees and clients
Building and expanding Group-owned practices

The Group has already made strong progress, including the acquisition of its largest network practice last year and three recent TaxAssist resales. Integration of these businesses has delivered benefits across the network, creating greater opportunities to share innovation and best practice.

Looking ahead, The TaxAssist Group is actively exploring further acquisitions in 2026 and beyond.

Daren added: “The potential for growth in this area is hugely exciting. With Karl’s leadership, we are confident our Group-owned practices will continue to flourish and add real value for the wider network.”
