Business owner Callum, from CS Creative Spaces, reflects on his time working with UK Growth Coach. He specialises in high end property refurbishments & extensions and high-end landscaping & bespoke joinery. At the start his business was direction-less, it was just himself and a subcontractor, he had no offices, no vehicles, and just a few weeks’ worth of work secured.

But after a couple of years of working with UK Growth Coach, he has offices, clear purpose and direction, a team of 8 (and recruiting for more) a pipeline of £1.2 million and less of his time 'in' the business, and more 'on' the business.

What were things like before working with a coach?

“The situation before we started working with UK Growth Coach was simply me and one other person, we had no office, no direction and no company vehicles.”

What have you worked on with your coach?

“The main business aspects we’ve been working on together from the start was the business culture, the direction, sales, marketing, branding and also the finance situation.

So we’ve also been working on our recruitment processes, to make sure we hire the right people in the right positions. And the induction and onboarding processes, to ensure they come in and follow our team values.

And also the performance as well to ensure they continue to perform in the way that they should.”

Has the relationship with your coach changed over time?

“Since working with UK Growth Coach, the relationship between us has changed quite a lot. At the very start it was more educational and being held accountable for things we didn’t know or didn’t do.

Whereas now it’s mainly about support and learning how to grow and develop the business side of things.”

What has the impact of coaching been for you and your business?

“We’ve grown to a team of eight with a long list of subcontractors that help us out on all of our current projects. We’ve got several vehicles out on the road that are all sign written and due to growth, we are also now looking to carry on recruiting in other areas.

So, originally when we started the projects were small, maybe around £105,000, recently we have just signed off a huge project for us which is actually our biggest project at £230,000.

This is actually double our first year’s turnover, when we started we had around £50,000 in our pipeline which was around 4 weeks’ worth of work, we now have over £1.2million worth of work in that pipeline.”
