Nick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Clear Brew business. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him and wanted to share his story. Here we explore where it all began and the path that led him to officially joining the team as Clear Brew Isle of Man.

Where it all began

It’s fair to say that Nick has been in the hospitality industry for most of his life. He left school at 16 and gained a diploma in Hotel and Catering Institutional Management. From here, he has enjoyed a prosperous career in the industry. One of his career highlights was running a small pub in the beautiful region of Shropshire.

Time for a change

Nick moved from Shropshire to the Isle of Man in 2003. His lovely wife, Heather, works as a midwife and this move was primarily for her job. Of course, Nick also wanted to provide a nice life for his family as his children were young at the time. When he moved over to the Isle of Man, he needed to create a life for himself and began working in pubs and clubs over there. Prior to investing in a Clear Brew franchise, Nick spent his days working in a golf club.

The path leading to Clear Brew

Nick was manually cleaning the beer lines one afternoon at the golf club where he worked, and said to himself “I wonder how many people don’t actually want to do this?” As with all good questions, he decided this was one for Google to answer. From his search he then discovered Clear Brew. Intrigued by what Clear Brew had to offer, he researched the franchise opportunities in more detail.

Reaching out to the Clear Brew team

Eager to find out more, Nick reached out to the Clear Brew team and spoke to our Franchise Coordinator, Ashley. He was able to explain the business model in more detail to Nick and answer any questions he had. Keen to witness the Clear Brew process for himself, Nick made his way over to the mainland to join a franchisee on a beer line clean. He was able to see how we operate and how the Clear Brew service benefits venues. He went back home to Isle of Man with a lot of new information to contemplate. Ashley was once again on hand to answer any remaining questions.

Welcome to Clear Brew

Armed with a wealth of information, Nick decided to take the next steps in his journey with Clear Brew. Eager to get Nick started with his new venture, Ashley organised a week for him to come over to Cornwall for training. He made his way from the Isle of Man to Cornwall and, after checking into a beautiful waterfront hotel in the heart of Falmouth (also one of our customers), Nick took a moment to rest before embarking on a busy week of training. During his time training with Clear Brew, Nick got involved in a series of beer line cleans as well as learning the theory side of operations. As with any course, there is a lot of information to absorb but the Clear Brew team at central office reassured him that they’d be here to help should he have any questions upon his return to the Isle of Man. 

Setting short term goals

As with any business, it’s important to set goals. Within the first week of returning home to the Isle of Man, Nick went back to golf club where he worked and began cleaning there. Nick felt it was important to start here to hone his new skills and enter a live setting within his own area.

Thinking longer term

Nick is looking to evolve his business and take on more customers in the following months. He is ultimately looking forward to his new venture over on the Isle of Man and can’t wait to help venues make savings and serve top-quality pints!

It’s not all work and no play

One of the major benefits of being a Clear Brew franchise owner operator is being able to manage your own schedule and improve your work/life balance. Nick has a real passion for quality beer and enjoys visiting pubs and having a pint or two. Beer aside, Nick’s hobbies include playing golf (badly) and has recently started playing Pickle Ball, a sport similar to tennis. Nick is also very much a family man. Although his children have now grown up and have established their own paths, Nick and his wife Heather intend on making the most of this next step in their lives.
