Franchising is something that is deeply embedded into the lifestyle of Glasgow North and South franchisee, Joe McGuigan. Having owned, grown and sold multiple franchise businesses in his time, Joe settled with Aspray and his achievements have been phenomenal. And now he has been honoured with the ‘Business Builder’ award at the British Franchise Association (BFA) awards – a well-deserved accolade.

Taking a Business and Making it Better

Joe purchased his franchise in 2013 as a resale and although the business was already making a sufficient turnover, he knew he could do better. And better he did. Taking the franchise from an average turnover to the top earner across the Aspray network and achieving phenomenal year-on-year growth.

Joe has successfully managed property insurance claims for thousands of policyholders, restoring their property and taking the burden when they needed it the most. Something he says he could not do without the amazing team that works alongside him and includes his wife Anna, son, Ryan, and long-standing office manager, Tracy.

Not only is Joe a master of managing claims, but he also gives back to the network. Speaking at the Aspray Franchise Annual Conference earlier this year Joe passed on the decade of wisdom he has developed as his franchise has grown. Namely, seeing everything as an opportunity and understanding that relationships can make a business.

The BFA ‘Oscars’ of Franchising

A recognised body for franchising across the UK, the BFA promotes ethical, diverse business in a sector that contributes £19.1 billion to the UK economy.

Held in Telford, the BFA HSBC Franchising Awards celebrates the best that franchising has to offer and with over 700 people at the black-tie dinner, the competition was truly remarkable.

When asked about his win, Joe said: “It’s an incredible honour just to be nominated, but winning is truly phenomenal. I owe this to my amazing team—I couldn’t have done it without them. After 24 years in franchising, being recognised by an organisation as prestigious as the BFA is both monumental and deeply humbling.”

Chief Executive of the BFA, Pip Wilkins, who was a judge and hosted the prestigious event said: “This is such a great win for Joe. The judges were very impressed with his entry, despite him being up against some very stiff competition. We thank him and his team for their hard work and dedication and for being such great ambassadors for ethical business format franchising in the UK today.”
