New Care Quality Commission appointment is great news for Care providers

The news last Friday by the Care Quality Commission of its new appointment to their Inspectorate was greatly welcomed by national Care provider, Caremark Limited.

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Executive with the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), has been appointed by CQC as its first Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care.

“This is great news for Caremark and for the Care industry as a whole.  We have waited many months for the implementation of a new rating system for Care providers, the removal of which left the general public with no means of assessing a Care provider’s competence” commented Anne O’Rourke, Operations Director.

This new role will see Andrea Sutcliffe lead the CQC’s inspection and regulation processes, as well as oversee the development of a new rating system for Social Care providers.

The former “star rating system” was scrapped some months ago but with no workable alternative offered in its place.

O’ Rourke continued “This unsatisfactory situation has left Care providers and the public alike at a loss and has allowed less scrupulous providers to go undetected at the expense of the clients they are supposed to serve, as well as bringing the Care industry into disrepute”.

CQC Chief Executive David Behan said ‘Andrea is the ideal person to lead the work on ensuring social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate high quality care.

As one of three Chief Inspectors, Andrea will have a key role in delivering CQC’s plans and making sure that people who use services are at the heart of what we do.’

Caremark is delighted at this move by the CQC to appoint a new Inspector for Adult Social Care and feel this appointment will continue to highlight good practice within the industry and root out those who try to take short cuts at the expense of vulnerable people.
