Home Instead works with The King’s Fund to put social care at the heart of integrated care systems

Leading home care franchise, Home Instead is proud to have recently worked with influential think tank, The King’s Fund to host a roundtable to explore the opportunities and challenges of integrated care systems for social care.

The King’s Fund is an independent charitable foundation working to improve health and care in England.

Home Instead wants to help shape discussions and government policy surrounding care following the passage of many influential health and social care reforms recently. By hosting this roundtable event, the company is ensuring that social care remains part of the debate.

The event brought together senior stakeholders who understand social care in a roundtable discussion. They explored putting social care at the heart of a new-look integrated care system which is placing greater emphasis on person-centred care.

Insights from the discussion have been used to identify a series of principles that leaders can adopt to enable effective working between social care and the NHS.

Home Instead CEO, Martin Jones, took part in the roundtable. As a representative of the home care franchise, Martin has long argued for the blurring of lines between health and social care; knowing the significant impact quality home care provision can have on a person’s wellbeing.

Speaking about this, Martin said, “Across our franchise network, we see every day just how much professional, well-trained caregivers can ease pressure on the health system by keeping people well at home, freeing up critical capacity for those who truly need it.

“It has never made sense to put health and social care into separate boxes and I was pleased to see this view mirrored in last week’s white paper. We need to seize the moment and develop a system that works for the benefit of society and that is what this work with The King’s Fund is all about.

“The home care sector is innovating at a rapid pace, and I know we can bring a new perspective and dynamic. Just look at what is happening with technology in our sector at the present time.

The Home Instead franchise network fully back their government lobbying and involvement in the wider conversations in the sector, ensuring that Home Instead is firmly in the conversation about the future of home care and the important role it plays in so many lives.
