The history of Brundall Gardens Marina stems from the original Brundall Gardens Estate, which was developed in the late 1800s by Dr Michael Beverley after he purchased the land and developed it into a pleasure garden renowned for its wooded slopes and rare planting, which became known as “The Switzerland of Norfolk”. The Estate was acquired by cinema magnate Frederick Holmes Cooper in 1917, and in 1924 the railway station Brundall Gardens Halt was opened to make the area more accessible to the growing number of tourists visiting the Broads. As the River Yare became increasingly important for leisure, a landing stage was added to the river, as well as a tearoom and dance pavilion, a riverside hotel and a yacht basin, which later became the marina. Tourism started to change on the Norfolk Broads in the 1970s and Brundall evolved into a centre of boating and marinas.
The current owners' family acquired the site in two stages, the first in around 2006 and during their ownership they have invested heavily, in particular extending the basin in 2013 to transform it into the thriving marina which exists today, enhanced by a variety of complementary facilities for leisure boat users and visitors.
