Having bought the business in 2004 it was run very much as a family operation with my client being heavily involved in the day to day running and initially with the extensive refurbishment programme. During this time the Thornhill Inn has established itself as a main business within the village and is supported well by both locals and visitors throughout the year, with a strong reputation for the quality food and atmosphere.
In 2016 our client took a step back from the operational side of things, due to other business interests out with the hospitality trade and it is run very much to suit their requirements rather than to its full potential. Whilst business is still strong and has bounced back well, post covid, the opportunity to grow the trade further is still very much their and would be ideal as a family run business, running it alongside the current staff.
The hotel is currently closed on a Monday and Tuesday however the bedrooms are still available including a breakfast option. The bar and restaurant is open from 5pm Wednesday to Friday and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Utilising various booking systems including Expedia and their own website and the business is rated highly on TripAdvisor with a 4/5 rating, establishing it as one of the best in the area.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a fine family-owned business within a busy and picturesque area of Dumfries and Galloway with the additional bonus of a fantastic owner’s cottage and potential to take the trade further. A viewing is strongly recommended to fully appreciate what is on offer.

Premises Details:

The inn is instantly recognisable due to its central main street location and whitewashed façade. Previously known as The George Hotel, our clients purchased the property in 2004 and from the outset, spent considerable time an effort establishing The Thornhill Inn as one of the finest village inns in the area. Presented well both internally and externally the property is of a traditional stone construction, set over 3 floors under a varying pitched tiled roof. Over the years it has built up a good reputation not just locally but within the surrounding areas and since being purchased extensive refurbishment has been carried out, utilising many of the original features. In addition to the main property, there is an additional 4 bedroom attached cottage, of similar age and construction. To the rear of the property is private parking.
