Yoga Studio and Vegan bakery amongst winners in London Business Awards

Twelve outstanding small businesses have been celebrated in the annual Dot London Small Business Awards. The award ceremony, which took place on Sunday, was created by the city’s unique domain name to celebrate the London’s most successful enterprises.

Hosted by presenter Katie Derham at the IET London on Savoy Place, the nominees were chosen by an impressive panel of judges including representatives from some of the capital’s most successful businesses; LEON, Brompton Bikes and Made.com. The winning enterprises were then voted for by the public.

Yogarise – a beautifully designed yoga studio in Peckham’s mixed-use Bussey building – won Dot Londoner of the Year. The business has filled a ‘yoga void’ in South-East London and is focused on community, offering free tea and some classes that only charge a donation. Co-founder, Emma Hitzelberger said:

‘It’s amazing to be recognised by Londoners, but specifically by the people of Peckham, our home, which has such a wonderful sense of community.’

Other winners included Deptford’s Little Nan; a bar designed to look like the living room of the proprietor’s grandmother, a vegan bakery in Brixton called Ms Cupcake and The House of St Barnabas; a Soho based charity and members’ club that helps the homeless.

Look Up London, who promote the architectural delights of the city that most people miss, won Blogger of the Year and the Best New Business prize went to Wonderush; a subscription-led enterprise that offers its members unique London experiences for a fixed fee.

The winners will all receive £1000, a free Dot London domain name for a year and mentoring on how to develop their online presence from sponsors including 123-Reg and GoDaddy.

The awards also announced Julian Baladurage, Managing Partner at MBJ Integrated Technologies, as Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Head judge, Dragons' Den’s Sarah Willingham, said:

‘Everywhere around London there’s a richness of enthusiasm coming from small businesses who are working hard to give their customers something different. That ingenuity and drive was what we were looking for from our finalists, and we were given it in spades.’
