The West Midlands was one of 2019’s most hotly-contested regions in the Awards this year and the judges chose Restaurant 1840 for its commitment to using local providers, supporting local charities, and championing local artists. Since launch in November 2018 Restaurant 1840 has donated over £9,500 to local causes including Telford Community Café, The Great Dawley Breakfast Club, Seven Hospice and Crisis. In addition to this the team opened on Christmas day to ensure that people in the community who would otherwise be on their own could enjoy Christmas together
Restaurant 1840 was nominated for the Small Business Big Heart Awards by a customer, so news of the nomination came as a complete surprise.
Joint Proprietor Rebecca Tindall says, “We were thrilled to be told we had made it to the regional finals for this award, particularly as we were unaware that we had been entered into the competition by one of our customers. Its great recognition for our team who support the sharing ethos of the business, and highlights the efforts we and all our customers make to put something back into the community we all live in. My partner Barry Hopley and I are delighted and excited.”
Rufus Bazley, Director of Marketing at BusinessesForSale.com says, “2019 was a record year for Small Business Big Heart entries so achieving regional finalist position is incredible. Launching a new business is tough, but deciding on a profit-sharing model at launch shows real grit. I’d like to congratulate Barry, Rebecca and the staff and wish them every success in the next and final round of judging.”
If Restaurant 1840 goes on to win the Small Business Big Heart Awards Gold prize it will receive £1,000 to donate to any good cause of its choice.
Restaurant 1840 is one of two finalists from the West Midlands, the other is Jamrock Catering in West Bromwich. This is the first year more than one finalist has been selected from the region, this is a result of a greater volume of entrants and a higher standard overall. In total there are 18 regional finalists across the country.
The overall winner of the 2019 Small Business Big Heart Award in association with BusinessesForSale.com will be announced on 15 September.
