Langleys of Norwich is believed to be the second oldest continually trading toy shop in the UK after Hamleys, with its history traceable to the 1880s. It has touched the lives of many generations, and the grandchildren of its very first customers now accompany their own grandchildren into this haven of family values in the heart of the city.
It has been a constant feature of the Norwich shopping landscape for nearly 150 years. It currently resides in the prestigious Chantry Place Shopping Centre following a move from its previous three-storey location in the Royal Arcade several years ago. It now trades from a substantial single floor.
Its current owner acquired it in 2015 and has decided that the time is approaching to pass on the baton of this historically important business to a new hand.
The store is the epitome of the old-fashioned toy shop. It caters for pocket money purchases such as marbles and water pistols at one extreme and the latest high-end Lego set at the other.
In between is a fast-rotating stock of jigsaws, plush toys, Barbie dolls, Pokemon cards, slime capsules, cap guns, model kits, activity sets, board games, collectables and pretty much everything you would expect to find in between, all supported by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff for whom working in a toy shop is a labour of love.
