Glenloy Lodge is situated at the foot of Glen Loy in the heart of the stunning and tranquil West Highlands of Scotland, the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’. The surrounding area boasts mountains and glens, forests, sea lochs and the famous Caledonian Canal, all of which provide a vast resource of outdoor recreational activities. With a low population of around 12,000 people in Fort William with a further 8,000 in the Lochaber area, the comparatively small rural community boasts an extensive tourist trade and hospitality sector.
Glen Loy is a delightful glen with a mixture of habitats, including native oak and pine woodlands, planted forestry and open ground. The pretty River Loy, which is a salmon spawning tributary of the River Lochy, runs through a wooded corridor before it reaches the more open, upper glen. There is fantastic upland walking in this glacial U-shaped valley, including a Corbett, Beinn Bhan at 771m. Wildlife includes resident golden eagles as well as red and roe deer, pine martens, red squirrels and even the occasional wildcat. Both red and black grouse are also found in the glen along with a wealth of bird life including ptarmigan and upland waders on the tops. Ospreys nest on the shores of nearby Loch Arkaig as do White-tailed Eagles.
Situated on the A82 Glasgow to Inverness, Fort William is busy all year round, the Lodge benefits from an extremely well serviced area with good road and rail networks providing direct links to Glasgow and Inverness with their respective airports being 98 and 70 miles away. While Inverness boasts daily flights to and from London, Manchester, Southampton and Dublin. Glasgow International Airport caters for both domestic and international flights with an average of 200 flights per day.
