Empowerment In Entrepreneurship: Finding Balance While Breaking Barriers

01 February 2024

Lucy Goffin had long searched for a role that would give her independence, flexibility and, most importantly, success. But it was only when she was offered the chance to take the next step towards securing a career in the police force that she realised that the path she was on wouldn’t quite tick those vital boxes.

At a crossroads in her career, Lucy started exploring the idea of franchising, and upon discovering Kitchen Makeovers – a brand with unlimited earning potential in an environment that offered full autonomy and control – she knew she’d found the perfect opportunity.

Now, just over a year after launching Kitchen Makeovers Portsmouth, Lucy has found incredible success, turning over £250,000 in her first year as a franchisee while leading the charge for encouraging more women in the franchise and home renovations industry.

By launching her own franchise, Lucy has been able to spend more time with her young family, as well as put a structure in place that helps her with a recent attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis.

Empowered by running her business, Lucy continues to grow both professionally and personally. Her success isn’t just in the financial milestones she’s achieved but also in the balance she’s been able to maintain between her work and personal life. The once-daunting idea of entrepreneurship has transformed Lucy into a highly successful business owner with huge potential.

“I’m really glad I found Kitchen Makeovers,” said Lucy. “It was a tough decision turning down the security of a career in the police force, but I can now say it feels like the best decision I’ve ever made. The work-life balance as a franchisee has been brilliant. I’ve got the flexibility that I’ve always wanted, and I’m having so much fun operating such a trailblazing business in a really exciting sector.

With home renovations being a traditionally male-dominated industry, I was a little hesitant before I started, but I’ve had no issues at all and, in fact, feel incredibly empowered by the success I’ve found – I’ve gained so much from running my own business, and not just financially!

“I’ve shown in just my first year as a franchisee that if you believe in yourself, you will be successful. I really want to encourage more women to get started in business. It’s been an inspiring experience for me so far, and I believe, by operating in such a supportive and innovative space, anyone can make a success out of being a Kitchen Makeovers franchisee.”

Founded in 2018, Kitchen Makeovers introduced the UK to the future of kitchen renovations. As one of the home improvement sector’s most innovative franchise brands, Kitchen Makeovers has established itself as an exciting, highly profitable opportunity through identifying and leveraging a gap in the market.

This trailblazing approach, evolving with the demands of the sector, is helping franchisees provide customers with a long-awaited, modern, cost-effective and sustainable service up and down the country, breathing new life into the heart of their homes.

“I conducted thorough research on franchising before I chose Kitchen Makeovers. There was no other brand out there that felt as exciting or professional. The marketing, the website, the ongoing support or even the evidence of such widespread success – there wasn’t anything quite like it, so it really stood out for me from the beginning.

I didn’t have any kitchen renovation experience, but I’d worked in sales before, so I knew I had a transferrable skillset. Thanks to the in-depth, easily digestible training on top of support from head office, I’ve settled into the role quickly, and the results speak for themselves.”

Kitchen Makeovers attracts both first-time franchisees and seasoned entrepreneurs looking to move with the times, thanks to an impressive infrastructure designed for scalability and a revitalised approach to customer experience in the home improvement sector.

Franchisees are encouraged to fully exploit the success they can achieve within their territories by building a local network of expert tradespeople. Kitchen Makeovers’ approach of championing exceptional customer service is continuing to reap rewards in a sector that has traditionally delivered below-par customer experience. Through recurring income streams, low overheads, an impressive scope for growth and ongoing development, the opportunity for franchisees is huge.

“Operating in such a secure and supportive space has helped me rediscover my love of working hard and reaping the benefits – franchising has been so beneficial for my life in so many ways. Having recently been diagnosed with ADHD, I’ve realised that traditional 9 to 5 jobs can be really tricky to manage. But by being my own boss, I can structure my days how I want to without the worry of falling behind or making sacrifices.

With a busy, young family, being a Kitchen Makeovers franchisee has enabled me to continue being a mother and wife while equally helping me to rapidly progress in my career.

“Aside From The Professional Element, I’m Now Getting To Spend More Time With My Family Than Ever. Honestly, What’s Not To Love?!”

On track to welcome 40 franchisees by the end of 2024, sophisticated branding, systems, operations and processes have established Kitchen Makeovers as a leading voice in a market which, before the brand’s inception, was crying out for a cost-effective, fuss-free service provider. This has seen the franchise receive over 500 glistening five-star reviews from happy customers across multiple reputable online sources.

Lucy is a shining example of how taking charge of your own destiny can help you forge incredible success in work and life. Knowing exactly what she wanted from the next step in her career, she has found ways of breaking down barriers rather than being held back by them.

As a Kitchen Makeovers franchisee, Lucy has shown that succeeding in an environment that nurtures and supports development comes easily by following the model laid out for all franchisees to benefit from. Now a trailblazer for women in business, she has taken on every challenge and found the success that hard work and dedication can earn.

It’s been a great first year; turning over £250,000 surpassed all of my expectations.I’ve learned so much already, and I still feel like I’m only just getting started. In my franchise’s current set-up, turning over £500,000 is easily attainable, and I don’t think I’d need to worry about making any other significant lifestyle changes either.

I’d definitely recommend Kitchen Makeovers to anyone considering franchising for themselves. It’s the best decision I’ve made, and I want to see others have the same success,” concluded Lucy.
