A Recipe For Success: Celebrating Three Years Of Kitchen Transformations In The Community

01 February 2024

This month marks a significant milestone for Truro-based entrepreneur Phil Chrysandrea as he celebrates the third anniversary of his local business venture, Kitchen Makeovers.

Since launching in January 2021, Kitchen Makeovers has grown from strength to strength and was even able to expand into Plymouth towards the end of last year. Having renovated over 70 kitchens throughout 2023 alone, Phil is determined to leverage this momentum to enhance his business’s footprint, foster more community engagement and ensure a prosperous year ahead for his young family.

Originally hailing from London, Phil relocated to the area in 2008 to pursue a career opportunity in tiling. However, his arrival coincided with the 2008 financial crisis, and his anticipated employment opportunity was gone.

Instead of resuming his life in London, he ventured into uncharted territories, seizing a chance to establish himself as a cornerstone of the community through an environmentally friendly and sustainable business venture. Now, more than ten years later, in an area he proudly calls home, Phil successfully operates his own company, which is kicking off 2024 with bigger plans than ever.

“It was definitely a bit of a shock when I first moved here. You won’t find two more contrasting places in the country when it comes to attitude and lifestyle,” explained Phil.“But now, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else! I love what I do, and I think that comes across when working with the community where I’ve not only created job opportunities for local tradespeople but have reinvigorated households’ kitchens sustainably.

I’ve made a lot of progress in the three years since I launched, but I’m still really excited for the future and want to continue to grow the business. You get what you work for in Cornwall; I think that’s why I like it here so much. If you’re prepared to put in the work, then you’ll see the rewards.”

Kitchen Makeovers was established to try and fill a gap in the market for home renovations in the surrounding areas.

By retaining existing kitchen units, the company focuses on replacing key elements to give a fresh new look while minimising waste. The local company has also replaced traditional showrooms by using efficient technology that not only streamlines customer experiences but reduces the business’s carbon footprint drastically – an approach that Phil says is part of what makes the business so successful.

With 2023 being Phil’s most successful year to date having seen consistent growth year-on-year, Kitchen Makeovers is set to continue serving more homes in and around the area.

“I’m a people person; I love interacting with my clients, especially in their own homes. You can have a detailed discussion about all the different options, and I’m able to give the customer an idea of what their kitchen will look like before work is even started – it works brilliantly for me and the community due to how families don’t necessarily have the time to visit showrooms anymore.

I work hard, but I’ve also managed to get a good work-life balance. I can’t wait to make the next three years even more successful than the last, and I’m especially excited by the prospect of helping even more homes sustainably transform the busiest room in their homes!”

Phil’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges; launching his business at the same time the government announced a second national lockdown certainly made for a bumpy start.

With three years under his belt, Phil and Kitchen Makeovers look set to grow into a leading name in home renovations across Cornwall, expanding their unique approach to sustainable and personalised kitchen renovations to an ever-growing customer base.
