Second-centre strategy sees Mathnasium reach growth goals

01 February 2024

With ongoing national interest in the quality of the UK’s education system, more parents than ever are investing in their children’s future by sourcing additional tutoring. As Mathnasium, one of the fastest-growing after-school education franchises in the UK, sets its sights on its 100th location, the demand for its quality educational programme is certainly establishing the brand as a leading choice for parents.

“Our recent and unwavering network growth is a testament to the value of our services,” explained John Preston, UK Master Franchisee for Mathnasium. “The strength of our franchise model has meant that it is actually our existing franchisees investing in second, third and even fourth centres bolstering this growth. Multi-unit growth has become a strategic goal for our brand and I’m excited to see who it will be to launch our 100th centre in the not-too-distant future.”

As franchisor and multi-unit franchisee, John is a real advocate for the value of operating multiple centres, “I’m keen to support my peers to explore expansion opportunities with Mathnasium and reap the rewards of operating a large-scale business.”

Dan Tregoning launched his second centre in the affluent and diverse district of Notting Hill in West London in September, working hard with his team and suppliers to open in time for the back-to-school season.

“Having opened my first centre in nearby Fulham in early 2020, I’ve been keen to expand my reach to nearby communities and essentially offer our services to as many local families as possible,” said Dan. “Mathnasium of Notting Hill has had a phenomenal first quarter – I’ve been really pleased with the number of students that have signed up and we’ve been embraced by the community with open arms. The personal relationship with the parents and children is of paramount importance to me and has formed the foundation of my business model, which is a testament to the success I’ve achieved and the demand for a second location.”

Seven miles north, in Muswell Hill, Martin Heaton-Cooper opened the doors of his second Mathnasium centre last summer, “My reasoning for first investing in a Mathnasium franchise came down to two clear motivations – I wanted to be my own boss and I wanted to make a difference to children living in my community, where I have raised my two children. Having spent most of my corporate career commuting across London, missing the school run and bedtime, I felt something had to change. Investing in a Mathnasium franchise gave me my life back.

“I work just as hard, if not harder, now than I ever have but the work I do is so valuable and rewarding that investing in a second franchise was an easy decision for me. I’m excited to see where I can take both centres in the future. I feel this was the best possible decision for my family and the commitment I have made as a franchisee now supports other families living right on my doorstep. It’s a win-win.”

Early 2024 is looking to be a time of real impact for Mathnasium, with plans for more nationwide locations to be operational by the late spring.
