A winning partnership - Subway celebrates successful relationship with Gillett’s Callington

16 July 2018

Subway is celebrating its burgeoning relationship with Gillett’s Callington, which operates 69 stores across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset that trade under the SPAR banner.

There are currently nine Subway stores located within Gillett’s Callington SPAR stores, with further stores planned, as the duo look to expand on what is proving to be a winning partnership. New stores are in development within Gillett’s SPAR stores in Pinhoe, Exeter and Bugle, near St Austell, with further stores planned later this year for Wool and Wareham in Dorset.

Gillett’s Callington has been a Subway partner since its first stores opened in Bridport and Plymouth North Hill in 2012. Since then, a further seven stores have been added, serving up a variety of tasty Subs, flatbreads and Salads to hungry shoppers and local residents.

Phil Darch, Operations Director at Gillett’s Callington commented: “At Gillett’s Callington we are passionate about operating the best stores for the local communities we serve. Our partnership with Subway is proving to be very rewarding and we are keen to extend this further, with new Subway stores planned within our SPAR stores.

“We were attracted to Subway as we felt it would be a good, complementary fit for our stores and would appeal to a younger demographic that we were looking to target. We were also aware of Subway’s success with other SPAR retailers and were keen to replicate this across the south west where we operate our stores.”

Kevin Graham, Regional Development Agent for Subway in the south west, said: “Gillett’s Callington is a valued partner for Subway in the south west and we are delighted with its ongoing commitment and plans to add additional stores. We look forward to working together to open many more stores in the future. ”

Subway has recently unveiled its new Fresh Forward decor. This modern format offers customers an enhanced brand experience, with a bright new colour palette, clean lines and customer-focused touches, such as digital menu boards and free-to-use charging ports, as well as a revamped fresh veggie display. The new look can be seen at Gillett’s Callington stores in Launceston and Hayle and will be extended to further stores in the future.

Through its partnerships, such as with Gillett’s Callington, Subway now has more than 800 stores in non-traditional locations in the UK and Ireland, including hospitals, transport hubs, universities and colleges, petrol forecourts and convenience stores.

Justin Goes, Regional Director Europe at Subway International B.V, added: “Non-traditional development, through partnerships such as this with Gillett’s Callington, has been a key factor to Subway’s growth in the UK and Ireland and we are keen to extend our collaboration in the future.”
