3/4 issues a year of the only UK custodial magazine, started 1996. The target readership is Governors and Managers in all prisons and Immigration centres, plus Custody officers and staff in Police stations. Principal editorial content is news and information on issues and services. Editorial content is made up of features and interviews created by the editor and commissioned from associations, public bodies and advertisers. The title is designed by one part-time freelancer. Between 2-3,000 copies of each issue are produced and posted free of charge to recipients. The main advertisers are product and service providers. Approx 75% of advertisers go into every issue. 95% display advertising. Future advertising orders will transfer to a new owner. Advertising is sold by 1 part-time salesperson. A large electronic list of potential advertisers, with email addresses, will transfer with the title. The website has been developed and features daily news updates and has advertising. The website includes a database of searchable content and back issues. The title is a media partner with several annual trade shows, which provides an additional stream of revenue. There is a weekly online version plus a Twitter account, both of which have large scope for development. A new owner could introduce extra editions and develop further e-mail bulletins and online advertisements.
The magazine has huge scope for development due to the planned expenditure on prisons that has been announced, and the increased freedoms to purchase that are being devolved. The present owner wishes to retire and is willing to provide a short handover period for a new owner.
