The expanding Village of Nelson (population 4,647) is located in the Taff Vale midway between the Town of Merthyr Tydfil and the City of Cardiff. It stands just off the main A470 trunk route and 5 miles north of the County Borough Town of Caerphilly. It is a prosperous community with many shops, banks and businesses located there and the Lord Nelson sits in the very heart of the village just off the main roundabout/crossroads.
It stands on Commercial Street which leads to a residential area and the very well known Llancaiach Fawr, a Sixteenth Century managed Manor House which is now a living History Museum set in 1645 at the height of the English Civil War when Charles I visited the same.
The Lord Nelson in its own right is a historic property predating the Industrial Revolution having a wealth of period charm and character beamed ceilings, exposed stone walls and fireplaces. It has intimate main trading areas with seating for 100+ and six former letting bedrooms at first floor which would suit conversion once again to letting accommodation and/or a private suite. There are two separate garden areas and a good sized car park.
ENTRANCE VESTIBULE which has leaded glass panels and stone tiled floor providing access into OPEN PLAN TRADING AREAS all arranged around a CENTRAL BAR SERVERY which has panelled frontage and counter spanning 6 metres in length. This open plan room at one time would have been a myriad of four/five smaller rooms and still has many separate and intimate areas. It has heavily beamed ceiling throughout, exposed stone walls, part carpeted and part wood sprung floor, traditional seating, tapestry upholstered benches, pews, dark stained chairs and stools currently to accommodate throughout up to 100 customers seated. There are three stone fireplaces; one fireplace being ornamental, one having cast iron solid fuel burner and the third having a ‘real effect’ gas fire. LADIES AND GENTLEMENS TOILETS. CATERING KITCHEN in three sections having main catering area with non slip flooring, selection of stainless steel catering effects and work surfaces and three section ceiling fitted galvanised extraction canopy. There is a DRY STORE and ‘wash up’ area. ON LEVEL BEER CELLAR with delivery access from the rear of the premises.
There are SIX LETTING BEDROOMS at first floor which are in the process of being refurbished. Two of these are currently in use and have been appointed to an extremely high standard. There are three further under refurbishment and the sixth bedroom is going to continue to be used for storage purposes.
There are TWO EXCELLENT SHOWER ROOMS which have been refurbished during 2017/2018 and provide quality tastefully appointed suites. There is also a DOMESTIC KITCHEN/DINING ROOM which is going to be retained for the provision of continental breakfasts for guests in case a new owner wishes to reconvert part or the whole of the first floor back to domestic accommodation.
There are TWO SEPARATE SEATED GARDENS both to the rear of the property, one adjacent to the entrance and the other an enclosed area with access from the bar. These have recently been refurbished with new flagstones and garden seating. These external areas can seat 60+ customers and are illuminated and partially covered.
There is lined tarmacadam CAR PARK with space for 15 vehicles.
