Located in one of the most beautiful landscaped public parks in the whole of North Devon, The Mill & Tea Garden is a valuable facility to this public space.
Bicclescombe Park has a host of facilities including tennis courts, the Wilderbrook Steam meandering through the grounds, landscaped walks with mature planting, ornamental trees, a boating lake, children’s playground and ample parking.
The stream splits into three flows feeding the boat lake, duck pond and the Mill Leat which powers the Mill Wheel, the Mill was first listed in 1795 as a corn mill and sold to Ilfracombe Urban District Council in 1933.
North Devon's only Green Flag award winning park, Bicclescombe Park has a strong fundamental character as a traditional public park in a tranquil setting.
The park has seven tennis courts and pavilion which are leased to the local tennis club.
It is located about 1 mile south of the town centre and is an important asset to the local community and tourists’ alike.
Ilfracombe is the most popular tourist resort on the majestic North Devon coastline with a picturesque harbour, beaches and other facilities.
The town has a population of around 11,000 inhabitants and is boosted by tourists throughout the year.
Bicclescombe Mill was first listed in 1795 as a corn mill.
By the end of World War II it had fallen into dereliction until the Rotary Club of Ilfracombe began restoration in the early 1970’s.
In 1973 after 10 years of restoration work by the Rotary Club, the English Tourist Board gave a grant to cover the cost of completing the remaining restoration work.
This included converting the adjoining farmhouse into a tea rooms and craft centre with additional funding from Ilfracombe Urban District Council.
The Mill Wheel still operates with fresh water from the leat supplied by the Wilderbrook
