Only a few short years ago, Sabrina and Subhash had never thought about owning their own business, but with family life and illness demanding a large portion of their life, the Ludheras decided to work towards their dreams.
Before buying the chip shop Sabrina, was a full-time teacher, but health issues and the demands of family life pushed the couple to realising their long-held dream of owning their own family business. The family bought and rebranded the chip shop, calling it ‘Cheeky Monkeys’ after their two young children and extended the menu to include traditional Indian curries alongside the quintessential British fish and chip meals.
“The Ludheras began their own business at a time when most would think the risks outweighed the rewards; Sabrina was chronically ill and they had a young family to support.” says Rufus Bazley, our very own Marketing Director at BusinessesforSale.com, “But it was actually a very shrewd move as the new business comfortably accommodated her recuperation needs and enabled them to manage the school runs too. Since the life change, Sabrina’s health has improved and the business is so successful that they’ve begun the search for a second business to buy.” he continues.
Sabrina says, “It’s been a lot of hard work but incredibly rewarding as everything we do is for the family. We have some great regulars who enjoy the curries as much as the fish and chips and the eclectic menu is definitely a draw for all customers, new and old. The added bonus of my own improved health has not only enabled me to give more to the business than I thought I originally could, it also means I enjoy more quality time with the children. Receiving the Fampreneur of the Month Award is just the icing on the cake.” (or could that be the curry sauce on the chips?)
Sabrina and Subhash have worked to become rooted in the community too. They give OAPs a discount and recently held a MacMillan coffee morning and raised almost £600!
