 | | Electrical Contractor Franchise | | | | Calbarrie Background
Calbarrie was founded in 1970 as an electrical contractor
specialising in equipment for the entertainment industry. In 1989
the government passed a Health & Safety Act requiring regular
safety testing of all portable electrical equipment, i.e. anything
with a plug on it, used in any building other than private homes.
If a personal injury occurs on equipment that has not been tested
and approved safe the owner of the electrical equipment being used
will find his insurance cover is invalid. It is Calbarrie's job to
help businesses, Local Authorities etc to comply with the 1989
Health & Safety Act.
Calbarrie was purchased in October 2000 by Castle Estates, a
residential property management company with over 45 franchisees.
Castle Estates has used its franchising expertise to develop the
Calbarrie franchise opportunity. Calbarrie, as is Castle Estates,
is now a full member of the British Franchise Association.

safety testing, every business has to comply to health and safety

Financial Information
The Calbarrie Opportunity
Calbarrie offer a variety of entry levels and believe in a simple
approach.
Single Territory Franchise
If you are looking to work alone in a given area then we would
offer an individual or single territory that will give you the
potential to develop a solid local testing service. Many
franchisees have taken this option and after a period by necessity
have then employed engineers and increased the size of their given
territory. Individual areas start from
£15000+vat.
Management Franchise
For those looking to develop a business with employed engineers and
a multi-van service, Calbarrie have developed Management
Franchisees to ensure that the surrounding area is reserved from
day one. Normally these territories are 3 times the size of a
single start up territory, and have at least 10,000 registered
businesses. We do not stipulate that after an initial period of
development that a second engineer is taken on to develop the
business, thus ensuring continued growth. Management Franchises
start from £25000+vat.
New Franchise Opportunities
Emergency lighting packages start at £7500 + VAT and
fire extinguisher and alarm maintenance from
£15000+vat.
Management/License Fees
Management or license fees are charged by franchise companies for
ongoing support and many other benefits in addition to the
continuation rights to trade under the brand name. Calbarrie charge
15% of turnover, which includes central accounting. This therefore
reduces the administration required in your business and allows you
to not only enjoy the benefits of being part of a nationally
recognised company but gives you more time to develop your business
and offer better service to customers.
Our relationship with the major banks and their franchise
departments will generally mean that the bank will lend 70% of the
cost of buying your franchise. During our initial meeting we will
be happy to discuss your financial status and offer advice and cash
flow examples that you can use when approaching financial
institutions and advisors.
What You Will Receive- Exclusive rights to a designated territory you will not be
competing against other Calbarrie franchisees.
