- Hi John. Please take a look at the buyer resources section - accessed via the buyer resources link in the navigation bar. There are a few articles about relocating to various countries - including thailand, australia and greece. There is also an "I bought the business" article about a couple who moved to Spain to run their own business. I hope you find these useful. Good luck! Jo

- Thanks Jo, I seem to do what you advised but couldn't find the examples you were talking about. Any further advice for finding them? I accessed the Buyer resource section OK but not the actual 'articles'.

- Hi John, copy and paste these links to the articles I was talking about into your browser.... http://uk.businessesforsale.com/uk/joy-and-spencer-rennie-hotel-mallorca.aspx http://uk.businessesforsale.com/uk/relocating-to-thailand.aspx http://uk.businessesforsale.com/uk/relocating-to-greece.aspx http://uk.businessesforsale.com/uk/relocating-to-spain.aspx I hope you find these useful. You can access more articles by going to the Buyer resources tab in the navigation bar. You will then go through to the Don't Dream It. Do It section. There are four sections of articles: Business Buying Demystified, Business Guides, Relocation, Relocation and I Did It My Way, plus other sections which feature articles from our partner sites. Jo

- John. I am a private equity investor and have bought and sold many businesses in many different countries over the years. Firstly I would suggest that what you are looking to do is Definitely achievable as long as you are willing to pput in the effort to learn about your new market -- in particular the laws, customs and general business culture. I would suggest that you stay in businesses that are either close to what you know or else are easy to learn and where the seller is willing to spend some time transitioning the buseinss with you.
Also one key point to remember is that the single biggest reason businesses fail is lack of sufficient working capital. They simply run out of money before they become profitable. So plan, plan, plan! Prepare a full business plan for the business. Otherwise you are in unfamiliar territory without a road map! And keep in mind that there are many sources of capital available. But do run through some "worst case" scenarios and make sure you can weather downturns in business.
Otherwise, of the countries you mentioned, I would suggest that Spain (depending on the Region) is probably the most business friendly. I would suggest you take a look at Mallorca. It has a very good and steady business climate. Check out www.businessfindermallorca.com (and no I am not affiliated with this site!)
Good luck!
Richard

- Many thanks Richard. The website you recommended is excellent and we were surprised by the selling prices. We haven't visited Mallorca which is why Thailand is still such a temptation because of the low outlay, the fact we've visited several times and we wouldn't need to borrow money, something we don't want to do at our age. However we will continue to investigate and will contact the agents on the website you recommended and see if we can go over for a few days to talk things over, if only to see if it is possible with our lack of experience and without knowledge of the language. Once again our thanks.

- Hi John,
I have just come across this forum (and this website) and I may have something that could interest you. Are you interested in Slovenia at all? It is a beautiful country and if you are looking to live somewhere for a few years and invest a small sum of money, them we could maybe work together on a project I am launching. Email me if you are interested (there is no harm in an email!) - **email removed**

- Kim, I am very sorry I never replied to your e-mail before this - moved house, new job, went over to Mallorca etc etc, apologies. Yes, I am still looking, Mallorca was good but I am off to look at mainland Spain in June. Hadn't really thought of Greece - but certainly worth a thought. Have you had success?

- I own a property company in Koh Samui Thailand, we sell properties and businesses here.
I want to recommend to you not to open a bar or restaurant as a business investment, I have seen so many people come here and try to do just that and they lose a lot of money. I also know people who have tried to start businesses in Spain and have suffered from the locals not using their business because they don't like to support foreigners making money in their country. You need to find a place you like, see what it is missing then you know what to do for your own business. Wish you luck in what ever you decide to do.

- hi there,
i have been to thailand for 10 yrs now,i have had business interests in pattaya,i have recently sold my bar in walking street along with my condominium...i want now to live on the islands of koh chang or koh pang nang...i have tired of pattaya...anyway what i want to say to you is do not rush into any venture in thailand without seeking legal advise first!!! i have heard far too many horror stories,my own father included.....you also need to put your business in a registered company and it costs approx 200 uk pounds for this...a very good idea is to buy land prefferably on the beach..or lease the land if your an older couple then i would advise to lease for 20 years..make sure the land has a chinote title deed..on this land you can make as many bungalows as you want to rent out....i know of builders who can make you beautifull bungalows for 1,500 gbp each....have beautifull garden area and small bar and resturaunt on premises....you can cater for tourist or backpackers....rental to full capacity for 8 mths of the year at 1,500 baht per night....you will live very well and have a relaxing enjoyable retirement and hassle free low maintanance too!!!! thats my idea anyway.....i visited koh chang and its lovely and getting very popular....i am back in belfast living now and making a visa for my thai partner...i will go back to thailand in two years when my house here has reached its peak value as there is property boom here at the minute....anyway i have contacts and extensive knowledge of real estate and if you need any help or advise then plz feel free to call or mail me....david maxwell...07902004505 uk or email **email removed**

If you have a look at www.tryspain.com you will see loads of estate agents in majorca and they have vilas and bars for sale in all areas and may help you? Let us know, you can treat us to a G&T if all works out.. Thanks James AND mandy
